The Polunsky Unit opened in November 1993 and was originally called the Terrell Unit. The 584,000-square-foot facility has twenty-three buildings on 472 acres of land and holds approximately 3000 men. Polunsky houses Texas' "super max" units and is notable for being the location of Texas' death row for men. There are currently 280 men on death row and another 250 in administrative segregation solitary confinement. Polunsky had a reputation of being one of the 10 worst prisons in the United States with an extremely violent history. That has now changed through the power of God.
The original chapel at the unit has a maximum capacity of 75 men. Because of the growth of the various ministries at Polunsky, the men quickly outgrew the chapel and began meeting at a gym Sunday mornings on "A" side. On many occasions the seating capacity is exceeded and men that want to worship are turned away. It was decided to add a second service on Saturdays and attendance has amazingly grown beyond the seating capacity of the second service.
With the size and location of the new worship center, more men will be able to worship at a designated time while keeping the inmates segregated to their assigned area. The center will also have classrooms that will be used for Bible study, life classes and Kairos. Currently there are close to 100 classes for inmates that are looking to become better men, fathers, brothers, and citizens. Polunsky has become an amazing ministry. God is not only changing the lives of the inmates and their families, but also guards and employees of the unit and their families. The ministries of this unit reach far beyond the walls of Polunsky Prison.

Believing that we are commanded by Christ to carry the Gospel to our world, and believing that real transformation can only happen in a relationship with the living Savior. We feel led to join in the ministry that God is already doing in the community of believers at the Allan B. Polunsky Unit of TDCJ to advance the Kingdom of God.
MISSION:
To reach 3000 men imprisoned in the Allan B. Polunsky Unit of TDCJ with the transforming power of our Living God.
GOALS:
Raise the necessary funds to build a worship center, classroom, library and office space for the church within the walls to gather for worship, education and discipleship. To build a community of believers from the churches around the Southeast Texas region that will love, support, and encourage the community of believers living inside the walls of the Polunsky Unit. To help further the ministry of the church within the walls of Polunsky Unit by providing opportunities for Church leadership to gain Biblical knowledge and ministry training.
All donations made to AIM will go to the construction of the Chapel at Polunsky. AIM has no compensated employees. AIM Polunsky is a Texas LLC and is a 501C3.
